Images of the rock slide taken at Curry Village, Yosemite National Park on 10/9/2008. Note, I shot these photos from the hip as I ran towards the cabin / tent area affected by the rock slide which is in progress. Some of these ran in local and national papers and one in particular ran worldwide through AP.

A few seconds after the initial blast as 1800 full size dump trucks worth of granite start to fall on Curry Village

I ran into the last row of cabins (first row from the standpoint of the rockslide.) Significant damage to the cabin(s) with dramatic tree trunks driven down into the village by the force of the rocks (1800 cubic yards est by the park service)
Boulder smashed into cabin entry and smaller rocks inside. Note, those rocks in side the cabin are bigger than softballs and with their mass and momentum would do some serious damage!
I must have accidently popped up the flash on the D700. Like a photographic a snow storm with flash, you can see the concentration of dust.
This is the shot that mostly made the papers and front pages through AP worldwide. Family members rush into the tent area. That tree, in subsequent image as well, saved a lot of damage to the cabins (IMO) buy acting as a brake to everything behind it.
